EACH Gtin vs EACH UPC

nancyVigo

Good morning team!

Our Item Management team brought up a question regarding EACH Gtins vs EACH UPCs.

As a rule, does an EACH UPC have to be built up from the EACH Gtin or can they have different numbers?

Thanks so much!

Hello @nancyVigo and welcome back.

The UPC tends to be the number the GTIN is built from. Normally you would get the UPC from or build it with the help of GS1. You can also look at the general standards they have when you create GTIN's on this website https://www.gs1.org/standards/id-keys/gtin

If you want to find out more about the types of barcodes an item can have you can look at the documentation GS1 has on the subject https://www.gs1us.org/upcs-barcodes-prefixes/barcode-types.

If you are unsure if the GTIN was built correctly you can look at the documentation GS1 has or contact them directly using this phone number 937.435.3870 or email  info@gs1us.org.

If you have any further questions please let me know. Thank you and have a great day.
