I am attempting to add an item into the software, but it says an item already exists with that item code. My company has been entering items into this system for many years and they have asked me to enter the current product line. The products I am adding have the same UPCs as the ones that were entered previously, but need to be under a different product type (Case to Each). If I change the lead digit in the GTIN, why will it not allow me to add the new product? They would prefer not to delete previous entries at the risk of losing data, but I see this becoming an issue for me rather quickly.

Hello @cbroadway and thanks for reaching out!
If you are trying to add a consumer unit with the same UPC, it would not work since the item already exists in Item Management. Please keep in mind that a consumer unit can be linked to multiple cases with different quantities, it does not need to be added for every hierarchy you create.
If you are trying to add Cases for already existing UPC's (EACH) in Item Management, this post covers how to create a new GTIN (there are examples for a 13 digit and a 12 digit UPC).
