Good morning!
I have just been asked by Sysco to change the UOM for "Energy" and "Energy from fat" to Kcal (kilocalorie).
Has anyone else received this message?
Thanks in advance!

I grabbed this from our GS1 subject matter expert on attribution: So the UoM of D70 has been sunset by the governing body of that set of codes- United Nations Recommendation 20 (UN Rec 20). The recommendation for the past 8 years or so is to use E14 Kilocalories. There is no difference between the two codes other than the name. The formula for determination is the same.

Actually, the value does not need to change. Kilocalories is what it is called outside of the US. In the US, that term was "too metric" so it was called Calories instead. All that needs to be done is to change the UOM. I am surprised that other recipients have not said anything yet.

It is always fun to chat with you as you ask so many good questions Thank you. Yes, per GDSN message choreography, if you update an item that is successfully published to a trading partner, they will receive your update. Some trading partners, however, may ask you to republish to override any previous publications instead of receiving just the update based on requirements they may have on their end.

Hello @nancyVigo, it's great chatting with you again.
Once updated and saved, the information will flow to Kroger without having to contact them, but you would need to resubmit the items in the Product introduction for Kroger if the items were rejected/pushed back to "In Process Supplier" by the CIC message.
And for the other items, you would need to update them if a CIC review message asks for the update.

Hello @nancyVigo
The Kroger Review message refers to the fact that, at the case level, you are missing the Percentage of the Daily Value Intake for the Calories(ENER-), therefore asking you to "revise Calories":
Please note, according to Kroger, the Percentage of Daily Value Intake is required for all nutrients even if it's "0".
Also you might need to confirm with Kroger the unit of measure for the Calories to ensure that is also correct.
Please add the missing information in Item Management, then make sure it's updated in Product Introduction and then please make sure to resubmit the item back to Kroger.
Thanks,

Hello and welcome back. Yes, this is a common request now for recipients...

Thanks for the prompt response. Is there a list of these recipients or do we just find out whenever we are asked?
Please, find below Sysco's response to my question as to why this is needed:
"This change is needed because the current unit of measurement (Calorie) is outdated according to GS1 standards. In order for our system to process the item successfully, the unit of measurement will need to updated Kilocalorie (Kcal). In 1 World Sync, you should be able to use a drop down to change the UOM and publish those changes to Sysco."

This is the first time I hear about this. Is this something I would need to change for all customers and all items since you stated that this was recommended 8 years ago? If this is the case, I would need to update, not only the UOM, but the Value as well, which would be a considerable amount of work since we do have many items in 1 World Sync.
Your advice and input in this matter is greatly appreciated.

Okay, that makes sense...thanks for the clarification. Sysco is the only customer who has reached out to us regarding the UOM change.
Is it recommended that we do change it for every item we have in 1 World Sync? In other words, are the "Calorie" and "Gram" UOM going to be phased out eventually? I know that there have been many changes in attributes and requirements for the past few years and I wanted to make sure to stay ahead of the game. 😉

Here is what I learned: Gram is not changing, nor is Milligram. Calorie is the only one that changed.

Okay, thanks for the clarification. I still have a question on whether to change both the "Calorie" and "Fat" attributes or just the "Calorie."
Please, see below:

Hello, is that error message from your trading partner asking you to change both? Do they indicate value requirements for these attributes in their Implementation Guide?
