UPC codes for master container at hierarchy 2 for a new item set up with Albertsons

What is the best option to use for a UPC when setting up the master container (wine box of 12 bottle)? We established an in house UPC that is 13 digits and simply adds an extra number to the UPC code on the bottle (hierarchy 1). Unfortunately the Albertsons PI system does not like that code, as we keep getting the following message when trying to validate our product:

SW0304 UPCs (GS1 Trade Item ID Value) must be 13 digits and have a valid check digit. Item (1051497367326)

Sample video did not really address this issue, so if anyone can provide some insight, we would certainly appreciate the help!

Hello @GenusWines and thank you for reaching out via our customer community.  Welcome.  The creation of GTINs based on your prefix is based on the GS1 standards which we follow and promote but are not our own.  You are correct, consumer units can have either 13 or 12 digit barcodes (UPCs) but the check digit must always be correct for them and if you add a number other than zero to the beginning to convert it to a 13-digit GTIN, that check digit must be updated as well.

You can see more about the GTIN allocation rules on the GS1 site.  Refer to the GS1 GTIN Management rules at https://www.gs1.org/gtinrules/

I also recommend you utilize the GS1 Check Digit Calculator which is the tool they created to help you easily and quickly find the check digit for your created items.  I also found this helpful discussion in community that could help as well:  https://community.1worldsync.com/t5/IM-Discussion/What-do-you-do-when-a-UPC-code-is-13-digits-in-ord...
