GS1 Italy does not share consumer level product information

Hello all,

As a reseller, my company pulls consumer level production information from many different countries. (Information like ingredients, nutritional facts, etc.) It has come to my attention that GS1 Italy collects all of this information but only shares the logistical, pallet level information, on GDSN.

Apparently GS1 Italy has split into two services: Allineo and Immagino. Alllineo is for logistical data and ties into GDSN. Immagino is for consumer level information (ingredients, images. etc) and does NOT tie into GDSN. In order to get the consumer level information GS1 Italy has communicated that companies must additionally subscribe to its proprietary additional service. It appears that GS1 Italy has found a way bypass the GS1 principal that data is shared in a standard way globally. GS1 Italy has circumvented the system every other datapool uses to share data requiring companies to pay extra, and develop another integration, for their "extra" service.

My questions are:

  1. Is the above information correct?
  2. How is this possible that a GS1 member that has consumer level data does not share it in GDSN?
  3. Should GS1 Italy technically be included in GS1 since it doesn't share consumer level product information?

Let me provide some assistance, if I may. Some of this might sound harsh, but is a way to consider this issue.

As a GDSN recipient, you can choose any data pool you would like to receive content. This can be logistic content and/or consumer content. You can make requirements that suppliers publishing to you must provide both sets of content in their GDSN Message. It would then be up to the supplier to choose a GDSN data pool that can help meet their needs for publishing to you. If your suppliers have difficulty using GS1 Italy to get all of their content to you from that data pool, they should consider moving to another data pool which can fully assist them. If you want to point them to us, we will happily talk to them about moving data pools.

Unfortunately, 1WorldSync can not solve the issue you are raising about GS1 Italy. I wish we could, but they are outside of our scope. You can try to discuss with them (Your Thief comment is not lost on me) which likely will not be fruitful at this point in time. If you want you can reach out to GS1 Global Office and escalate your comments to them. You can find their contact information at this link- https://www.gs1.org/gs1-global-office.

Thanks,

Scott Brown

Hi Julie,

Thank you for your reply. Please pardon the analogy but going to GS1 Italy about this is like going to the thief to report a robbery when instead I should talk to the police.

Is there a governing body that I can escalate this to?

Hello @tduncan and thank you for reaching out via the 1WS customer community.

We as a data pool are hosting your information and sending it to different trading partners, but some countries might have additional fees. As an example, you can check the documentation we have available for customers who publish to GS1 Canada Fees for 1WorldSync Suppliers

As GS1 is the organization developing and maintaining the standards we recommend reaching out to them as they would be able to provide you with details regarding why this additional service is needed from you. Please reach out to GS1 Italy as they would be able to provide you with information and answer your questions about why this would be needed from your end.

You can find the needed contact information on the official GS1 website. Thank you!

Hi George,

Thank you for your response. I will happily take this up with the GS1 organization, can you provide me with their contact information? The only contact information I can find is country specific.

I have already communicated before my original post. GS1 Italy confirmed that they operate as 2 business, one that shares logistic information on GDSN and one that does not share consumer information as per my original post.

For what it's worth, my company is not a supplier we are a recipient. Thus my understanding is other trading partners are sending their information to 1WS where we collect it. However GS1 Italy does not share consumer level information via GDSN which in my mind defeats the purpose (hiding information behind an extra paywall and not sharing it globally).
