Kroger API - Kroger Style Guide AI Review Question for Bulk Items

techservices1

I tried publishing my first product using Kroger's new API and it was rejected because it does not meet Kroger's Style Guide Standards for not having a marketing message, images, or feature benefits. Our product is a bulk item that we sell directly Kroger who is then using it internally. It is not being sold directly to the consumer (and therefore won't appear on the Kroger website or App) so we do not have a marketing message, images, or feature benefits. What do I submit for these fields that do not apply to us and will allow the product to get past the AI review?

Hello @techservices1

Welcome to the 1WS Kroger Community!

Great question! To use the Kroger API, all product submissions must follow the Kroger Style Guide standards.

Here are some helpful tips for submitting items through the Kroger API:

Marketing Message
A customer-focused description of your product.

  • Required

  • 1–3 sentences (300–400 characters) describing the product

  • Highlight key features and benefits

  • Use original copy specific to Kroger to improve search visibility

  • Write in complete sentences using sentence case

  • Use active voice

  • Avoid repetition—focus on the unique selling points of your product

  • Think like an online shopper—what would help you make a decision? Product name? Brand? Features?

Key Features
Use bullet points to highlight product benefits.

  • Suggested

  • List the top 5–7 most important features

  • Start each bullet with a capital letter

  • Do not include punctuation at the end

  • Be specific—avoid vague statements

  • Use semicolons to separate phrases within a bullet, if needed

  • Focus on product features only—no promotional or pricing info

Product Images
Images help bring your product to life.

  • Main image is required (only one needed to submit)

  • Alternate images are recommended to provide additional context

  • Use high-resolution images (at least 1000px) for optimal zoom functionality

  • Show the full product, occupying at least 80% of the image area

  • Up to 6 total images can be submitted—1 main and 5 optional to best showcase your product

Hi,

I am trying to update my product listings within IM to fit Kroger's new API Style Guidelines. Though, for the piece about Bullet Points, I'm running into warnings. I was told during the Webinar that it would be perfect to put Bullets like "Non-GMO Project Verified" and leave it at that. But the warning tells me that my bullet points will have higher search visibility if I keep them at least 25 characters long.

How do I meet the normal standards of Basic Item Setup while also staying consistent with Kroger's new Style Guidelines? I understand there's a "Share With" function where I can exclude everyone but Kroger for certain attribute fields, but do I really need to create two different sets of 5-7 Bullet Points for each Item I update? Appreciate your help with this.

Thanks,

Hanna

Hi @snackjacksons, welcome to the customer community.  Thanks for reaching out.

"Non-GMO Project Verified" is 24 characters long instead of the Kroger-recommended 25, so perhaps it helps to add the word "product" or something else that you find appropriate and that would not change the meaning to fulfil the recipient's requirement.

You do not need to create different Features and Benefits for different retailers, but you can if you want to or if it helps your processes. If a retailer requests different type of information or a different formatting of the same information, in this case you can create different Features and Benefits or Product Marketing Messages or Descriptions, but if your retailers' requirements match, you do not need to worry about this.

Please let us know if this helped or if there is anything else we may assist with for this request. Thanks!

Hello @snackjacksons . Thank you for utilizing our customer community.

In addition to what Val mentioned, I have attached instructions on how to designate a "Trade Item Feature Benefit" specifically for Kroger:

Regarding the bullet points themselves, I have attached a screenshot with the characteristics they should have for Kroger:

Hi @Theo and @Val_P ,

Thank you so much for this information. I'm really thankful that you both got back to me so quickly on this matter. I think I may have included a poor example when I put "Non-GMO Project Verified", as I have smaller bullet points like "Vegan" or "Gluten-Free" that aren't quite making the cut. I'll try to beef up the bullet points to meet the 25 character minimum, while also adhering to the Style Guidelines listed above.

If I run into any other issues regarding this topic, I'll be sure to reach out in this chain. I'll also try my hand at what @Theo mentioned with the designating a "Trade Item Feature Benefit" specifically for Kroger if something goes awry and doesn't meet the playlist/Kroger API Certification publishing requirements.

Many thanks,

Hanna
