Packaging Feature Code

Not sure if this is the correct board. Please let me know if this belongs elsewhere.

I have a food service customer requesting additional packaging attributes we have not previously supplied. One of these is Packaging Feature Code which has a list of possible selections. It appears you can select multiple options.

I am hoping to understand how others are utilizing this attribute today to see how this would be applied to our items. The majority of our items are case level only items, where the meat is vacuum packaged or bagged, and then in a case. There are typically labels on the case and sometimes on the inner bags. So labels is the only value in the list that I see as being applicable to our items.

Sorry if this is too specific of a question. Just trying to understand this and the customer didn't supply any specific examples. But this attribute to me seems more useful for items like oils or something with a lid or spout. But want to make sure I am not missing something. Any feedback beyond just the GS1 definition of the attribute would be helpful.

Thanks Stone.

Usually you would only use this attribute if there is a special feature found with the items packaging. Cork for a bottle of wine/champagne, Spigot for bag in box, for examples. If they are requiring you to choose something as a mandatory element, then I would choose OTHER. If asked to explain, I would tell them there are no special features for this packaging and we were required to make a choice.

Hope this helps.

Packaging Component Description is a free text field. This is the other packaging attribute that I am struggling to understand what is an appropriate response to put in for our items. So any feedback or examples of how this attribute is utilized would be extremely helpful.

Stone, I can help with this request. Can you send me some of the codes in the list they are asking for? This can help me find the right attribute on our side. We might have a slightly different name for the attribute.
