Kroger suppliers sometimes encounter errors for the family of attributes associated with Non Promotional Items and Promotional Type Codes.  Let's take a look at how to resolve these common validations.

Error Message Example:

Error: "KR1014 Non Promotional Item is required if Promotional Type Code is populated, Product is Pre-Priced is Yes, or if Item is Labeled with Cents off Label is Yes.

KR15887 Non Promotional item is Required when Item is Labeled with Cents off Label equals TRUE or Pricing on Product equals TRUE, or Promotional Type Code equals BONUS PACK or FREE QUANTITY. Item

KR15898 Non-Promotional Item is Required when Item is Labeled with Cents off Label equals TRUE or Product is Pre-Priced equals TRUE."

These errors are based on these attributes and their conditional relationship:  This is from Kroger PI/VIP.

Product is Pre-Priced – Indicates if there is a retail price physically on or attached to the product packaging by the manufacturer or information provider

Promotional Type Code – Used to identify the different types of free quantity promotional trade items and the nature of the link between the standard trade item and the promotional trade item.

Non Promotional Item – The GTIN of the standard trade item.  Used to indicate which trade item the promotional trade item replaces or coexists with.  To enable linking of identification of information between the two trade items.

Item is Labeled with Cents off Label – Indicates promotion type of Cents Off

Cents off Quantity – Number in the deal e.g. 75c off a bundle of 4

Cents off Amount – Amount of promotional cents off for an item

Resolve the Validation:

These attributes are typically provided on just the Consumer Level Unit which we will call the Each for this example.  They can be published to Kroger or added to your items directly in Kroger PI/VIP.  Imagine a promotional product that has a stick of deodorant and travel size toothpaste bundled together for consumer sale.  If the deodorant is the standard trade item (the GTIN you are populating) then the toothpaste is the secondary item or the “Non Promotional Item.”  Populate the GTIN for the secondary item in the “Non Promotional Item” attribute field.

As you can see in VIP and in the screen capture, you can indicate more than one item packaged together with the standard item (deodorant).  You do so by clicking the green plus sign in the header row for these attributes.  Here are some best practices for these attributes:

  • The GTINs you are providing in the “Non Promotional Item” field should all be published to Kroger as well.
  • The other attributes in this area are not necessarily required but you should provide as much quality content as you can.
  • For the attribute “Product is Pre-Priced,” if populated, the “Non Promotional Item” attribute is required
  • If you have more than one package containing the exact same product, (think two deodorants plastic wrapped together) then you can populate the same GTIN that you are working on in the “Non Promotional Item” field.
  • The “Item is Labeled with Cents off” attribute is also required if Product is Pre-Priced is populated with a value.
  • If “Item is Labeled with Cents off” attribute is populated then “Cents off Quantity” and “Cents off Amount” are required
  • If “Promotional Type Code” is populated, then “Non Promotional Item” is required
