GS1-GTIN Rule: Change to pack count or pallet count question

DawnVanWychen

If there is a pallet count change, but that full pallet quantity is not being sold to the trading partner, does the 14-digit SCC# need to change?  The base unit of measure is Case that the SCC# is tied to.  The consumer selling unit is the each package within the case.

Pack/case quantity

Often, the number of trade items in a case changes or there is a change to the number of cases of an existing pallet configuration. Such changes to the case or pack or pallet level need to be accurately communicated amongst trading partners to ensure that there are no issues across the supply chain.

Examples of pack/case quantity changes

  • A case configuration changes from containing 9 trade items to containing 12 trade items.
  • A pallet configuration changes from containing 12 cases to containing 16 cases.

Examples not considered pack/case quantity changes

    • A new or additional pallet layout is offered. (This would be considered a new product)
    • The material type (cardboard or plastic sleeve) of the case or pallet configuration changes, and there are no dimensional changes exceeding 20%.

Hello,

Typically you will not need to create a new a new GTIN if the weights/dimensions do not change by 20 percent with the new pack change. However, it is best to review the link again below and contact GS1 at 937.435.3870 or via email at info@gs1us.org to review these specific standards as they're set directly by them.

Thanks!

Good morning.  I tried that.  It says to create a new SCC# but it does not specifically state if it is needed when that is not the actual order shipping quantity - full pallet required.  What if they can order single cases to be shipped?
