Functional Name and Components

Good morning!  I have received a review response stating that Functional Name is a required field.  This is for both the case and each level.  However, if I add the Functional Name then I receive several errors due to "components" missing.  I have received this notice for two GTIN's.  This is a branded item that is published to many customers but only one has sent this review response.  My GTIN passed validation for Food and Beverage before I add the Functional Name so I took it back out.  Any ideas what may have triggered this? Hello @lflanary it's always nice to chat with you.  Can you provide me with your example GTIN?  I suspect you are using the component version of that attribute that is then requiring you to populate other component attributes.

Yes please - GTIN 10023709110143 and the eaches 00023709110146.  I tried going out to them and looking at the components to make sure I had not accidentally filled in something but didn't see anything....Is there somewhere else that I can enter the Functional Name that they are wanting without it triggering other component requirements?

Hello.  With a closer look, the non-component version for Functional Name is actually Product Type Description (functionalName)

Thanks - however, those fields have always been completed  - don't know why I would get this request...Also - any chance that the review request could match?  The review just said Functional Name so that is the attribute I looked for to complete.  It didn't say product type description...

Thanks - Now I have two more GTIN's today that have the same issue - is this possibly a new requirement from US Foods?  I have checked the Product Type Description at the case and each level and all four items have the information yet I continue to get these review notes from my customer.  Any ideas??

Hello @lflanary I am wondering if, to your point, they made updates on their end, if there is a mapping issue.  Awhile ago, there used to be a GDSN attribute for the functional name but the name was changed by GS1 to Product Type Description (functionalName).  If US Foods needs this attribute I would expect they would map to the one with a name change and not the component version of the old attribute name.  Let me ask and see what I can find.  Can you ask any contacts you have on your end for your trading partner as well and we can meet back here?

Hello @lflanary I talked to our Product Team SME who took a look at the example.  We believe you have too much in there. It might be that USF is looking for the correct content to be in there and not what is there and the message is not stating that in the best manner. It really should be something simple to group like products together instead of "6/10 Rst Red Pepper Dcd 3/4" or "#10 Rst Red Pepper", It should be "Red Pepper" or "Roasted Rep Pepper". Can you change one item and see if that works?  If not, we will recommend you contact USF for feedback on this...

I have made that adjustment on GTIN 10023709110402 and am waiting to hear back from US Foods. I will let you know what I find out....
