What is Mapping?

Attribute Value Mapping & Transformation is a powerful tool that enables you to map and transform your product data to meet recipient requirements. It streamlines the entire process, saving you time, and helps eliminate data inaccuracies. With the assistance of AI and an intuitive interface, it allows you to syndicate your data more efficiently and easily.

Mapping: Connecting one piece of data to another so the right information flows into the correct attribute.

Transformation: Changing the format, structure, or value of data to match recipient expectations (e.g., standardizing text and reformatting values).

How Does Mapping Help?

  • Maps & Transforms Data: Ensures your product attributes and values align with each retailer's language.
    • Example 1: Map “Main Product Image” to “Planogram Straight On Front Shot Image” to automatically share the correct images to all your recipients.
    • Example 2: Your attribute pick-list value “Color: Bronze” is automatically transformed to “Shade: Gold” to match a specific retailer’s required value.
  • Fixes Data Quality Errors: Transforms mismatched formats, trims or combines data so your product content meets data quality requirements and publishes successfully.
  • Faster Syndication: No more manual corrections, especially for large-scale product syndication.
  • Mapping Suggestions: AI-powered mapping suggests mappings, reducing manual effort to prepare data for quick and seamless syndication.

Mapping & Transformation Examples

Below are a few examples of the available Mapping and Transformations. To see the full list of transformations, click here.

✔ 1:1 Value & Asset Mapping

  • A one-to-one mapping assigns a Source Attribute Value to a Target Attribute Value.
  • Easily map your “Main Product Image” to “Planogram Straight On Front Shot Image” to always have your content flow correctly and automatically.

✔ Value Mapping:

Value Mapping aligns different choice list values from similar Recipient attributes.

  • Map the choice list value “Paper Bag” within the “Packaging Type” attribute to the “Paper” choice list value within the “Liquid Packaging Type" attribute.
  • Once enabled, the system will automatically populate the correct value, saving you the time and manual effort of inputting data for each retailer.

✔ Truncate

A Truncate mapping shortens a value by removing characters from the end of the text (left or right side).

  • Map: Source “Product Description” value to Target “Short Description”.
    • Source Value= “Women’s Hiking Boots With Durable Rubber Sole”
  • Apply Transformation: Apply a Truncate Transformation to limit text to 31 characters.
  • Target Value Result: “Women’s Waterproof Hiking Boot”

This applied mapping & transformation ensures the data meets the technical requirements of the Target attribute seamlessly, saving time and effort.

✔ Conditional Transformation (If/Then/Else)

An If/Then/Else transformation is a type of conditional logic that scans source data and maps a specific value based on whether a defined condition is true or false.

  • Map: Source “Packaging Type” value to Target “Liquid Packaging Type”.
    • Source Value= “Paper Bag”
    • Source Value= “Plastic Bag”
  • Apply Transformation: Apply an If/Then/Else Transformation to scan source product data for the “If” rule selected (e.g., contains) and either apply the defined “Then” value if the condition is True or the “Else” value if the condition is False.
  • Target Value Result:
    • IF condition is TRUE = “Paper”
    • IF condition is FALSE = “Other Plastic”

This applied mapping & transformation ensures data consistency and usability by automatically converting diverse or differing value formats into the retailer’s standardized, required values.
