When an account is first set up it is crucial to set a Primary Identifier to uniquely define products in an account. Company Primary (unique) Identifier settings can be found in Configurations > Company Settings > Account Preferences.
Primary Identifier set at the account level should be the same identifier used when importing product data:
When importing product content, Primary Identifier is used to uniquely define products in order to update product data and create new products in an account.
A Secondary Identifier is used when there are products in an account that intentionally share the same Primary Identifier and need to be uniquely defined by a Secondary Identifier.
Example: Seasonal products that share the same sku number (GTIN/UPC).
A Secondary Identifier can be applied upon import listed under Additional Import Options.
Important: When updating product content using a Secondary Identifier, it is important that the Primary Identifier and Secondary Identifier is listed on the product(s) in Syndigo and included in the spreadsheet being imported. The only time Secondary Identifier does not need to be listed in Syndigo is if the user is creating a new version.
Example: Primary Identifier: GTIN | Secondary Identifier MFG Part # (OEM)
Secondary Identifier is only used during import if there is more than one match on the Primary Identifier. If the system finds more than one match on Primary Identifier, it will look at the Secondary Identifier to uniquely define which product to update (or create).
If there is more than one match on Primary Identifier, but no match on Secondary Identifier the system will create a new product record if configured to do so:
If the creation of new product records is not desired, be sure to mark DO NOT create a new product on the import questionnaire listed under Additional Import Options.
