The Customer # (or ID) field is a way for you to add an identification number to a customer record. The number can serve as your internal reference number, or to identify that customer to a third-party system, such as your accounting or CRM package. If you do not enter a Customer Number, the system will auto-generate one for the customer record. The auto-generated number is 2 letters followed by 4 numbers. It is derived from the first letter of the first and last word in the company name followed by a 4-digit sequence. You can override this auto-generated Customer Number by entering a unique number of your choice at any time.
Forcing format and making required. If needed, the Customer # field can be made required and a specific format can be put in place for customer ID to match what you might need in another system. For example: a different system requires a format for customer # like 0000-00 and you want ChannelOnline to match. Please reach out to support to enable on the backend on your behalf in your custom database fields (support see CCSCOL-19632).
