Do I have to modify all of my existing content to meet the new accessibility requirements?

  • No, existing content will not need to be modified to meet these requirements, unless you are making a change or an update to that page/content.  Any manual changes to existing pages go through our manual QA process and the QA Team will check and validate if the page meets the requirements before republishing.

The requirements apply to newly created pages or existing pages that are modified.  If you have a page/content already live and do not make any edits to the content, it will continue to be syndicated as normal unless a modification is requested by a retail partner in order to be compliant with their website.

Does ContentCast Support video subtitles or captions?

  • Yes. Our player supports display of captions when WebVTT or VTT subtitle files are provided along with each video without your automated feed.

Does the ContentCast Platform pass accessibility?

  • Our inline content templates are compliant against WCAG 2.0 (Level AAA) Guidelines. Please note that 1WorldSync does not maintain, test or validate all content provided by manufacturer feeds or via the Inline Content Builder against WCAG compliance.  You, the manufacturer, are responsible for supplying the information and content to meet accessibility guidelines.

How do I add Closed Captioning to my Videos?

  • 1WSCGomez_0-1687423160138.png

YouTube embedded CC is already supported, and will automatically show for the user.

To add CC (Closed Caption) file to an uploaded video:

  1. Select an existing video in the content to edit.
  2. Select 'Choose Files' under Captions / Subtitles

  3. Upload the .vtt file
  4. Click Save or Apply

Information on the VTT format can be found here: https://w3c.github.io/webvtt/

Closed Caption Tools:

*Known limitation: Closed Captions are not enabled by default. User has to click the CC icon in the player controls. Auto-enabled will be added in a future release.

CAVEAT: If embedding an external video (YouTube or Vimeo) users will need to manage subtitles through that platform. As in the case below, the video added was a embedded Youtube URL - we can't add vtt subtitles on top of a youtube video, YT handles CC through their own system. vtt is meant for videos where users upload a video to the system and the player is playing them.

How do I add Video captions or subtitles?

  • You will need to provide the URLs to each VTT within your automated XML feed ingested by CNET. Please contact Customer Support to coordinate the retrieval and processing of your VTT caption files as CNET engineering may need to make customizations to your import process.

My content is created automatically from a feed by 1WS. Do the Accessibility apply to these?

  • It does not immediately apply, as these are complex feeds where development work needs to be with the brand and 1WorldSync. However, we are actively working with feed-based brands and will have a separate timeline and deadline for being compliant.

Where can I see a full list of changes and requirements for Accessibility Compliance?

  • To see a summary of the changes and requirements please view this Article

Why are you making these Accessibility changes?

  • There are 2 main reasons for us to make these enhancements.

    1. It will help brand sales to visually / hearing impaired consumers
If you are not including these accessibility elements in your content, you are effectively not presenting the content to visually / hearing impaired consumers. These are essential to ensure that all consumers are benefiting from the rich content provided by your brand, which is known to increase sales substantially in eCommerce.

    2. Protecting our retail partners
More and more of our retail partners are facing legal challenges for displaying pages that are not accessibility compliant. By ensuring the content we pass to them has met the standards, we lower their risk of legal action against them. Many of the major retailers are also now requiring this and will begin turning off rich content that does not meet their standards.

Will I be notified if the content I have built does not meet the new accessibility requirements?

  • Yes. A member of our support team will contact you if your content does not meet the requirements, explaining specifically what needs correcting or modifying to pass.

Will my pages be taken down if they do not meet the accessibility standards?

  • No. This only affects new pages you create, or if you edit an existing page (the newly edited version cannot be published until it meets the standards).
