Good morning team!
I have been discontinuing inactive items by using the future date and deleting publications, then checking to make sure they have been truly discontinued.
I do have a few items that went through a pack change, but kept the same EACH Gtin, which we have in 1WS with a different CASE Gtin.
What is the best way to unlink the hierarchy to only discontinue and delete publication of the CASE (not the each)? Do I add a future date, delete publication, then unlink the EACH before the inactive date becomes effective?
Thanks in advance!

Hi @nancyVigo! Yes, this process will also affect the publications of the correct/current Case.
This is because if you plan on unlinking the Each from the inactive Case, you will not only need to remove the inactive Case's publications but will also need to remove the new/current Case's publications as well. If any publications from either of the Cases are present then you will not be able to unlink the item. Once all publications are deleted or withdrawn and 24 hours have passed, then you can proceed to unlink the Each from the inactive Case and Package and then Publish the correct/current Case linked to the Each again.
If you have any further questions, please feel free to let us know!

Hi @nancyVigo and thanks for reaching out in the Community!
When a Case is published that has an Each item linked to it, the Each item is also considered to be published. Because of this, there is no way to unpublish the Case without unpublishing the Each with ir. You would need to first delete or withdraw the publication of the Case, and then, 24 hours after deleting the publication, you can unlink the Case from the Each. Once unlinked, you can proceed to discontinue the obsolete Case by populating the 'Discontinued Date' field.
Let us know if you have any other questions!

@Montavio, thanks for the prompt response!
Just to make sure I understand, whenever a CASE is linked to an EACH that shares another CASE Gtin, I should unpublish the inactive CASE before setting up a future discontinue date? If so, should I just withdraw publications instead of deleting them?

Hi @nancyVigo!
So that I can be sure I give you the most pertinent and accurate answer, could you clarify what the 2 example Case GTINs are so that I can review them in Item Management?

@Montavio, of course! Please, see screen shot below showing the EACH being linked to two CASE Gtins. The top one was a master case (with a PACK), which is no longer active in our system.
The one below is the current one.

Hi @nancyVigo, thanks for providing that and clarifying! The hierarchy with the Package that is no longer needed would first need to have all its publications deleted or withdrawn. Deleting the publications indicates that there is no intent to synchronize or send updated item data to the Recipient now or in the future. Withdrawing a publication implies that you do intend on reactivating/resynchronizing this data with them again one day, just not currently.
Once 24 hours have passed, you can then unlink the Each from the obsolete Case and Package and then finally discontinue the item using the Discontinued Date field.
Please let us know if you have any other questions!

@Montavio, thank you so much for all the help! My last question is: Will deleting publication to the inactive item affect in any way publication of the active item since the EACH is linked to both?
I just wonder if our customers will get a message stating that the active item in their system is no longer published to them.
Thanks again!

@Montavio, once again, thank you for answering all my questions and making everything very clear as to what path to take from now on.
Have a fantastic day! š
