For the US Market/catatog, can both imperial & metric be sent to GS1, 1WS for an item? or can we register the item only in imperial or decimal & not both ?

Hello @LeslieH and welcome back. Registration for your items with the Global Registry only uses four attributes: GLN, GTIN, Target Market, and GPC. The numerical values and units of measure will not impact the registration of your item. Some recipients may require different units of measure based on the Target Market. For example, GS1 Canada requires a Target Market = Canada variation of your item and it must include a French description along with metric units of measure.

thank you for your quick support - I guess I need to ask my question differently - so to syndicate my items in the US market, could I share both imperial AND metric measurements or is the catalog/syndication only accepting a solitary set of measures? particularly in US - would it be possible to send Imperial AND Metric measures? or do we need to make a choice in US & be consistent?

Hello, @LeslieH thanks for clarifying, and sorry if I did not answer as you needed. You can certainly provide both measurement types for Target Market US items. Hopefully, your trading partners are only mapping to the ones they want to receive from you.

COOL ! I don't know how to send both sets of measures ... is there information in the IM or GUI which would give that detail? I could only identify the 1 set of measures in Weights & Dimensions & it didn't look repeatable to me - is there a trick?

@LeslieH it seems I was wrong and I apologize. You can have only one type of measurement UoM per Target Market per item .

Just wanted to jump in here. The US Target Market must be sent Imperial measurements, not metric. There is some confusion from 1WS Canada that they are unable to support imperial measurements. This would be against standards, so I would appreciate verification that their statement that they are unable to support standards for the US target market is inaccurate.

Hello @RebeccaNichols and thanks for jumping in. I appreciate your perspective and support in the community. For the GS1 Canada example, they ask for metrics on the Target Market Canada variation of the item and users certainly provide empirical values on the Target Market US versions. I am not entirely sure whether GS1 Canada digests the US Target Market values but I do know they process the Target Market Canada information.
Does that further clarify the best practice here as I realized I made a mistake in my original answer to @LeslieH and apologized after I took a deeper look?
