Item creation allows customers to describe their product using the standards and requirements in place for successful data synchronization. Some attributes are required before you can take further action on the item while others are required by your trading partner(s). IM uses errors and warnings to identify areas that need your attention.
In general, red errors are prohibitive and require updates before additional steps are taken. Orange/yellow warnings are not prohibitive but are recommended based on best practices and customer preferences.
When you validate your item, IM will alert you to any errors and warnings. Troubleshooting Errors and Warnings in IM starts by identifying the attribute(s) referenced in a Warning or Error. You can always access the attribute(s) causing the errors by clicking on the colored attribute name directly below the message itself:
Once you click the attribute name, seen directly below the Warning or Error message, IM will navigate you to the attribute triggering message. The image below is the result of selecting the orange “Net Content” attribute name in the Warning message seen above:
As seen in the image above, there is an additional Playlist selected on the item as well. The “Basic Item Setup” Playlist should always be selected, but others can be added as well. The Playlist you choose for your items can change depending on the item type and the Recipient you are Publishing the item to. In the example above, the “Food and Beverage Products” Playlist was added for this example food item.
Having the “Food and Beverage Products” Playlist selected will affect the Error and Warning messages you receive when you Validate your item. This can be useful to inform you what data your item may be missing to ensure you have as few issues as possible when publishing.
It is also important to remember that if you populate a field in a particular Attribute Group, such as the “Component Number” in the Components Attribute Group, you will likely need to finish populating the other required fields in that same Attribute Group. You can see this by the addition of Component Error messages that were not present until the “Component Number” was added:
