Within the Feature Set and Image Widget, Device Targeting allows users to control what asset is displayed based on the size/width of the shopper’s screen or device.
It is most advantageous for ensuring the shopper sees the most important details of an image, regardless of the screen they are viewing. A banner image may be great for desktop experience, but a cropped version may be more visually appealing or informative in a narrower view. Device Targeting is set at the asset level and can be configured from the Asset Library or when creating/editing Enhanced Content collections within the widget authoring modal. Once an asset is configured for Device Targeting, the experience will be applied whenever the asset is used in a Feature Set or Image widget.
Configuring Device Targeting from the Digital Asset Library
- Access the Asset Library by clicking Assets in the left-hand navigation panel.
- Browse or use the search/filter options to locate and select your desired asset by clicking the file name. The asset preview will load.
- Click Add Device Targeting just below the asset thumbnail.
- Follow the prompts to select up to two additional assets to be included in the Device Targeting experience. These assets can be selected from the Asset library or uploaded directly from your device.
- As assets are added, pixel breakpoints are automatically applied to determine when one asset should be used in place of the others based on screen size. To adjust the breakpoint, simply enter the Image breakpoint for the asset. Pro tip: The Syndigo default image breakpoints are configured for standard mobile, tablet, and desktop/laptop experiences.
- Click Save.
Configuring Device Targeting from an Enhanced Content Widget
When building/editing an Enhanced Content widget, the option to “Add Device Targeting” is available below any asset preview for that widget.
Though the asset modal can be accessed for an image within any widget, the device targeting settings are only applied to the Feature Set and Image Gallery widgets. One asset in the set owns the device targeting experience, so the image the device targeting experience is built for is the image that will be displayed when placed in widgets that do not support device targeting.
Pro Tip: Widgets that DO NOT support device targeting are: Documents, Videos, 360 View, Carousel, Interactive Tour Comparison Table, Specification Table, IFrame, Text/HTML.
