POSSIBLE GTIN IF GROSS WEIGHT CHANGES BY 20%, BUT NET STAYS THE SAME?

Good afternoon team!

Our Item Management Department asked me to reach out to the Community before making some Gtin changes to a number of items.

One example is Gtin #10071072001018. The CASE gross weight will change from 7 lbs to 12.47 lbs and the EACH gross weight will change from 1.01 lbs to 0.56 lbs.

The NET WEIGHT will remain the same for all items involved.

Hello @nancyVigo it is always nice to chat with you and thank you for checking in. This relates to the GS1 standard for GTIN rules that (historically) if an item changes more than 20% over its lifetime, then a new GTIN really should be created. That is what the standard suggests and those are the best practices. Some recipients watch this and could flag you if > 20% changes are made without a new GTIN.

@CommunityJedi22, I have a follow up question, if I may.

If we decide to go ahead with the change of these items, how would I know if a customer flags a particular item because of the change resulting in the > 20% discrepancy...a CIC message?

Hello @nancyVigo Thank you for using our community. You will not receive a CIC from your retailer if you decide to make these changes without changing the actual GTIN but by not following the GS1 Standards for the GTIN change there is a risk of receiving fines.

We suggest checking the available links for more than 20% changes: https://www.gs1.org/search/gsone/gtin%20change or https://www.gs1.org/1/gtinrules/en/decision-support. You can also contact GS1 and double-check whether you need to change the GTIN for the changes your item is going through.
