Hello @aetitus and welcome back to the Community! Thanks for posting.

Here is a useful document from GS1 US covering different uses of and for Variable Weight Trade items: Working with Variable Measure Trade itemsUser Guide

However I could not specifically find mentioned anywhere in their documentation (the article above and the GS1 Global Data Model Attribute Implementation Guide) that it is allowed or prohibited to link Consumer Units that are Random and Exact Weight together in the same hierarchy.

Another option, if applicable to your items, is to set them up as Product Assortments. You can find more details about this type of setup here: Product assortment.

If you would like a written confirmation, you can reach out directly to GS1 US at info@gs1us.org and request them to confirm your request.

Please let us know if this helped or if there is anything else we can assist with regarding this request.

Thank you!

Linking Finished Goods and Consumer Units that are Random or Exact Weight

We are a supplier, and in our previous Master Data system we allowed random weight Finished Goods to link with Consumer Packages. Our customers took in our data and we never had any complaints or issues. When we had set up our system, we did do research and never found anywhere that said we couldn't do that.

A few years ago, we had to implement another Master Data system that our parent company has. They do not allow random weight finished goods to link to Consumer Packages. When we implemented, I did need to discuss this with some of our customers. They were not happy we had to break that link but they have managed through the change.

Can someone link some 'proof' that the industry standard is that we can link a random weight finished good with a consumer package?
