Do I have to unlink a discontinued item?

Good morning,

I have discontinued several items the past couple of days, and I was thinking I had to go in and unlink those items.

But, the more I think about it, I'm thinking that may have been the case, only, if I'm having an item deleted.

Can you please tell me if I need to unlink discontinued items? I did search the subject, and I'm not finding anything with the answer.

Hello @A_Flower . Funny, just had a similar question on another post. This is one part I copied (below). You really should delete pubs for items before the discontinued date is a current date. Once the pubs are deleted, you can discontinue and if you like, unlink them so they are not accidentally used on another hierarchy. The main idea here, as noted below, once the Discontinue Date is current, the item will de-register with the Global Registry which will prevent further synchronization. If not performed in the correct order, customers see tons of error messages in their worklist when updating an item that is still published with a current Discontinued Date.

There are a couple of important things to keep in mind to ensure you are not negatively impacting your trading partners and your reporting:

1) When your Discontinued Date for an item is current (no longer in the future), IM will de-register the item with the Global Registry. As a result, you should never have an item with an active publication and a current or past Discontinued Date.

2) You should use the Discontinued Date as a future update for your trading partners for items that are published. Remove the publication for your items before that date becomes current. If you need to delete publications for a discontinued item, there is a process we can work with you to complete so this can be done.

When you are ready to remove these items, you can ask us to delete them from IM for you via our GTIN Delete process. You can simply complete the attached sheet and email it to us and we will process the GTIN deletes.

Thank you for your quick reply. I won't have the discontinued items deleted from IM because, often, we bring the item back into production.

I'm so glad I came across this post! I have discontinued a few items myself by picking today's date (or whatever day I'm working on this) as the discontinued date, then I refresh by date.

I was not aware that I had to unpublish items from our trading partners before doing this.

Should I go back and delete the discontinued date, refresh by date and unpublish the items, then do the whole process again? Thanks!

Hello, @nancyVigo That is a good question. Can you check some of these GTINs and see if they show as registered in IM? If they are not registered but still published, you will get errors if you Save that item or try to Repub or anything like that.

Good morning and Happy Friday @nancyVigo . That's a great point I should have included in my answer.

In IM, open up an item. On the far left of the screen, you will see the Item Attribute Sets navigation bar. Scroll all the way to the bottom and click "Item Registration Status."

Then, if successfully Registered, you should see this:

@nancyVigo your questions are bringing to the surface something I have wondered about as well when we see the registration status in your screen capture. For that same GTIN, just the one for now, can you delete any publications for it? You would only need to do that if you no longer want to send updates to your trading partners

There were two publications for this particular item and they have both been withdrawn (as seen on screenshot). Anything else I need to look for?

So, that worked. I need to document this as we have different registry statuses that I need to make sure I share with nice folks like you. So, for any items you have that have the exact same status you and I discussed earlier today, you can do the same process. If an item shows as not registered or any other difference, please don't delete and post here the GTIN number and I can take a look
